Topic: 5 ways ListDC enhances listing
  1. Listings are visible from ANY containing category. This means that all housing is visible from housing, all jobs are visible from jobs, etc. Most websites have a categorical system where information is more or less hidden in subcategories. ListDC takes the inverse approach by using categories to filter the unwanted, i.e. selecting a subcategory yields a more specific subset of listings.

  2. The business model does not depend on outside pay-per-click ad placement. Advertisements are designed to get the user's attention and maintain control to obtain the desired response. ListDC was designed to put the user in control and pay-per-click ads are, at best, a slippery slope down the wrong path. As the old saying goes, "Wise men speak when they have something to say. Fools speak when they have to say something." Whitespace is silence.

  3. Support for anonymous users. Users may contribute to existing forum topics without an account. Other listings require an email address but no log-in credentials.

  4. Useful account features. Users who have activated their accounts via email are able to manage their listings and memo communications conveniently.

  5. Event calendar view. Most web calendars are organized day by day. They essentially hide information behind days of the month in the same way categories usually hide information. The philosophy of always showing until the user chooses an unrelated subset meant that ListDC needed something different. The scheduling grid isn't a new idea so why don't more web calendars use them.
