I remember somewhat the BASIC interface to the sound card on the Commodore 64. My computer music back then was totally algorithmic and some of the demos I watched on my 286 with an SB Pro had the best music.
I have used Cakewalk, Winjammer, Rosegarden and some text-graphic midi sequencer I can't remember the name of. My favorite of these, and the one with which I was most productive and creative, was the text-graphic sequencer. I haven't written music in years but my experience with HTML, XML, and the like has affirmed my belief that music can be composed best with plain text.
Mouse clicks are the equivalent of point and grunt. God gave us language and I prefer to use it whenever possible - and that goes for programming too Mr G.
So who still writes algorithmic music?
