I promised not to waste your time. After watching the traffic for a while it appears I have indeed wasted some of your time so please allow me to fix that. ListDC is not your everyday listing service. The categories are freshly designed to help you browse more efficiently but old habits die hard. I see many visitors scanning classified subcategories in hopes of finding something. This is unnecessary because if a particular category is empty or unhelpful on ListDC, all subcategories are also empty or unhelpful.
For Lookers
ListDC does not hide information in categories. Instead, categories are used narrow down the listings. All listings will appear in the root category. This includes houses, dogs, shoes, paragliders, you name it. Choosing a category will narrow the results. "General Listings >> Real Estate" will show listings in all real-estate subcategories to include “Apartments for Rent”, “Town Houses”, “Commercial Property”, etc... Select one of these subcategories to narrow the listings further.
For Listers
Because listings will appear in all higher categories from the one in which they are listed, it makes sense to choose the most deeply nested category that is still descriptive.
For example, a Ford Fusion in "General Listings >> Automotive >> Cars" will appear in "General Listings", "Automotive", and "Cars". If your particular vehicle is so outrageously different that it only fits in automotive than put it in "General Listings >> Automotive".
ListDC was built upon the principle of nested sets so ditto for jobs, events, and any other data class we may add in the future. If you find the categories wanting, use the “contact us” link at the bottom of this page.
Placement in the root category "General Listings" actually provides the least visibility. For maximum visibility you should choose the deepest category that still describes your listing.
Sincerely,
Sam Danielson
